Disability Income Insurance
Protecting Your Lifestyle
Disability income insurance exists to protect your most important asset: your future cash flow. If you cannot work in dentistry, we need to ensure enough money is coming in to take care of you and your family.
Be cautious of insurance agent biases. Agents are paid a percentage of the overall cost of the policy. This can create a bad incentive for agents to make the policy more expensive than it needs to be.
We highly recommend working with a dental specific CFP® professional that wants to build a relationship with you, not just sell you something.
Group Disability Income Insurance Plans
Benefits & Cost
Group policies may not be the best option for dentists. Often times, the benefit period is not to age 65 and/or the policy has a lower cap on the monthly benefit you can get. The policy cost will also increase as you age for the same amount of monthly benefit. This makes the policy's price hard to accept and can lead people to cancelling their policy when they are older even though this is the time that they need it most.
Consistency & Longevity
You cannot take a group policy with you when you leave the employer. If your next employer does not have a group plan, it may be hard to get your own personal policy. The older you are when you apply, the more extensive your medical history may be which can make it hard to even qualify. There may be added exclusions to the policy exposing you to risks where your coverage may not apply.
Review Your Options
To discuss your personal policy options and compare to your group plan, schedule a meeting with our CFP® professional for an independent review.
